I hope you’re having a great week.

It’s been a very, very busy past few weeks.

Recently I’ve had the opportunity to present Social Media for Real Estate to a large number of agents & conducted FREE webinars about How To Avoid The Top 10 Mistakes Agents Make When Using Social Media (more sessions to be scheduled shortly).

Last week I was asked to do a National Tour with some of Australasia’s finest real estate trainers, plus I’m now booked-in to speak at a couple of other major events in 2011. I also featured on Best Practice TV and now appear regularly on Kevin Turner’s REUNCUT real estate radio program as the ‘Tech Tip Guy’.

On top of that, one of my articles is featuring in the next edition of the REINSW Journal plus I’ve written the Cover Story for the upcoming edition of the National Real Estate Publication, the SOLD Magazine.

Over recent weeks I’ve also enjoyed providing Personalised Marketing Consultations for agents who want to get the most out of their online marketing & getting agents started with the Social Media for Real Estate Plug-In Solution plus helped lots of agents to win more listings via our HomeWebsites.com.au product. (this has kept me extremely busy).   

In amongst all of this, I’ve had the absolute pleasure to meet up with some of the most amazing people.

I must say that when I first embarked on this journey of training agents about technology, Social media, etc I had no idea who I would end up rubbing shoulders with from both within and outside of the real estate industry.

People like AFL coach Kevin Sheedy AM, Paul Cave AM, Mark Bouris were some that I had never expected to meet but yet they have now provided me with some of the most amazing inspiration.

This week’s Success Tip comes as a result of catching up with an inspirational Aussie, Paul Cave AM, the founder of BridgeClimb.

Sometimes we all take a step down a path way not knowing where it will take us. All I can suggest is have faith in yourself and your ability and remain passionate about what you are doing and you’ll be absolutely amazed at what destination you may arrive at.

Success Tip

An Inspirational Australian Story Of Passion & Persistence.

As you may have read, back in July we took the whole family up to do the BridgeClimb for my youngest daughter Katelin’s 15th birthday and sang Happy Birthday to her from the top of one of the world’s most iconic structures, the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Having experienced BridgeClimb, I had no idea that I would ever get the opportunity to meet the founder of this amazing experience and learn how he actually got this $150 million business off the ground in the first place.

When BridgeClimb first started I knew that there had to be someone very special behind the concept but I had no idea that it took Paul so long to get the business from idea to becoming a reality.

Paul first came up with the concept of taking 1000 CEO’s for a walk on the bridge and the site supervisor said that his experience with CEO’s is that they tend to be a bunch of whimps & they probably won’t handle the climb. To demonstrate he asked Paul if he’d like to climb the bridge and Paul said yes & to his surprise they set off to climb the bridge straight away.

Paul had his suit on and business shoes on & the supervisor had his work gear & boots on. Paul felt uneasy & unsure. There were no handrails or modifications made to make the climb easier or safer because basically back then it was a work site & only the workers were allowed on the bridge.

There was one section of the climb that was a long single ladder (split into 3 ladders now) and 2/3 of the way up the ladder Paul froze. He was so scared that he actually wet his pants. He was not only embarrassed about this but he was so stricken with fear that he was considering turning back.

Paul soldiered on and got to the top (the other workers could see that he had wet himself in the process but that would soon dry) and marvelled at the view and the amazing experience. As he reached the bottom he knew that he had to find a way that he could share this experience with others & thank heavens he did because it is one of the most exhilarating moments I have ever experienced.

He immediately started planning and budgeting to get the BridgeClimb concept going and anticipated that it would take him about 2 years to build and launch the business.

Paul Cave BridgeClimb9 years and 10 months later BridgeClimb launched and it was only through Paul’s passion, determination and his memorable climbing experience that kept him going.

Pauls’ story is one of the most inspirational stories of persistence that I have ever heard and I believe that he will go down in history as one of the most courageous entrepreneur’s within Australian business.

A few years back Paul also had to take on a personal battle with cancer and was extremely fortunate to be treated by the late Professor Chris O'Brien and due to Paul's the success of his BridgeClimb business he has also been able to help contribute considerable sums of money to Life House at RPA, which is an incredible legacy that Chris O'Brien (another passionate Australian) had visualised for cancer sufferers.

It's amazing to see what heights that initial ladder climb ended up taking Paul Cave.

Another intriguing side to the Paul Cave AM story is how he runs BridgeClimb today and the daily reporting that he receives.

Every person who climbs the bridge is asked to complete a survey at the end of the climb and every morning Paul receives an SMS with the following details of the previous days results.

  1. Number of people who climbed
  2. Number of people who completed the survey
  3. The client satisfaction rating
  4. The contact details of anyone who put ‘Poor’ as their experience.


You see, Paul Cave sees complaints as an opportunity to hear how he can improve the experience and he personally calls each of these customers and asks them for feedback or reasons why they weren’t happy with the experience. (the BridgeClimb is such an amazing experience that he normally only has to make 1 or 2 calls a day)

Q2: Do you ask the right questions?


I know of a number of real estate agents who survey their customers regularly and they have told me that it is one of the best things that they have implemented within their real estate business.

The Testimonials created will not only provide social proof that you are doing a great job but the complaints can really help to pin-point some of the areas where you may need to improve your service. To get the real customer feedback you not only need to survey your customers but you also need to ask them the right questions.
