ar Friend,
Happy New Year!!! I hope you're having a great week...
It feels great to be back. I've had a fantastic holiday relaxing & water skiing on the Hawkesbury River. I must admit I don't think I've ever sat in a hammock & relaxed for so long. I feel so refreshed & set for what looks like being an amazing year.
I've got some great surprises coming your way this year, so make sure to keep an eye out for them as the year unfolds.
Whilst swinging in the hammock, I read a fantastic book called "The 4-Hour Workweek" by Timothy Ferriss.
It is a real eye-opener & is arguably one of the best books I've ever read about helping to create a sustainable work/life balance & maintain a successful career at the same time. If you're looking for a great book to get your real estate career & life on track, I can highly recommend it.
In the book, he includes one of my favourite book excerpts which typifies the importance of having goals.
"Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where..." said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go," said the Cat.
Lewis Carroll ~ Alice in Wonderland
If you haven't done so as yet, right now would be a great time to sit down & write out a list of 10 goals you'd like to achieve in 2010, because if you don't know where you want to go or what you want to achieve, then you could end up like Alice, drifting around aimlessly.
Now, the first thing I'm doing to kick-off the New Year, is some investigation into The Future Of Agent's Commission - 2010 and would really appreciate your thoughts & input about this if you have a spare moment.

Also, in next week's issue I'll be continuing the series on 'How to Get More From RealEstate.com.au Without Paying Extra Money' but to help you kick the year off the best way possible I've decided to share something with you that should help you get off to a flying start to the year & help you to stay on track for a truly successful year.
Once again, Happy New Year. I hope that 2010 opens a new exciting chapter in your life & becomes one of the best years ever for you.

Ander's insightful approach to goal setting, will assist you on your journey to success.
Why do you think it is so important for people to set goals?
Oliver Wendell Holmes said, ‘A person’s mind, once stretched by a new idea, never returns to its original dimensions’. A goal is simply an idea of a place or a person you ultimately want to be.
In my opinion, having a reachable goal is more important to your life success than almost anything else you do – it becomes your compass, your ‘true north’.
Einstein said, ‘Imagination is more important than knowledge’ and I believe that this is because imagination is the preview of life’s coming attractions. Goals lay at the centre of the creative process and are largely determined by your imagination.
Additionally, goals are great milestones to measure your performance by, and perhaps most importantly, it is who you become in the process of achieving your goals that forms your true and lasting personal assets. As such, they are an essential part of creating your future.
What are some of the areas in which people should set goals?
In all of our coaching and trainings, we emphasise the importance of viewing ourselves holistically.
Therefore it is important that we set goals in each major area of our lives so that we act in a balanced and aligned fashion. Career, business, relationships, finance, spirituality, health and contribution are the most common areas that our clients pursue and achieve goals in. Goals are a way of stretching ourselves and growing.
Do you believe you should share your goals with other people or keep them to yourself?
I think it is important to share your goals with people you believe will support you in achieving them. I believe it is a good idea to find a group of people – who are happy and successful in what they do and have a track record of achieving their outcomes – and to share your visions with them, asking them for specific tips and advice that will be useful on your journey.
Sharing your goals with pessimistic people is not a good idea. They may attempt to undermine the vision, cut you down in one way or another, or give you a myriad of reasons why your dream is not possible from their limited perspective of the universe.
Unfortunately these people exist and too often make their sceptical opinions heard. People are either assets or liabilities, and I would recommend spending your time, energy and contribution with people who truly respect you and appreciate you for who you are.
Goal-setting techniques craft the person you are in the process of becoming and it is vital that the people around you respect and appreciate your evolution.
What would you say to someone who is frustrated that their goals are not materialising as quickly as they would like?
We frequently underestimate what we can achieve in a year and overestimate what we can do in a month. I sometimes say that the universe’s delays are not the universe’s denials. By that I mean that whether or not a goal arrives on a specific date, it is important not to be defeatist about these things. While time and specificity are important in the goal-setting process, it is also vital to remember that time is just a human construct served to impose order on chaos.
As an extension, my firm belief is that whatever we get is a direct result of our output. We always achieve our goals when we are aligned. If success is not forthcoming as quickly as we would like, it is a sign for us to change our strategy until we get what we want. This aligns closely to the idea that when we contribute and give others what
they want, we will receive what we want.
Goal-setting and getting is not meant to be a chore – it is supposed be about fun, flow and being in the now. We have all been in the ‘flow’ or in the ‘zone’ before and realise how easy it is to lose all perspective of time. Being in this space is a sign that we are in the right place to receive.
Here's An Example: A friend of mine, who is an investment banker in New York, told me a beautiful story of a holiday he went on in the Caribbean. He was there with some friends and they went out snorkelling one day. My friend is a very spiritual and connected man, while some of the other New Yorkers who were with him were less so – they were uptight, stressed and deadline focused – even on a holiday.
As they were kicking, splashing, and disturbing the surface of the water, they soon started complaining that no fish were forthcoming, and that snorkelling was a waste of time.
The guide, a centred man with a thick Rastafarian accent, responded by telling them in a calm voice, ‘Take a breath, relax, stop kicking and fighting for it. Be in tune with your surroundings, and most surely the fish will come’. Accepting his advice my friend’s colleagues were soon surrounded by a kaleidoscopic and diverse school of fish.
